About Nicola

 

Our lean machine Nicola, is a perfectly pointed, graceful dancer. She is always happy and loves to help everyone with their nemesis moves! Her ability to link moves together comes naturally and she has an amazing inner strength.

Nicola is determined and can perform tricks and moves to a super advanced level and currently teaches the beginner girls. She brings both style and grace to Pole Sessions and no matter what trick she performs she looks amazing with her perfectly pointed toes! 

Nicola has a beautiful style, she always looks effortless and throws in her own twist on some classic moves. Not only can Nicola look amazing in the advanced strength power hold moves but she can spin with grace and fluidity in her spins and routines 

Nicola is in the Pole Sessions Sparkles and performs at many events in the UK

Interview with Nicola

How did you get started pole dancing?

I got into pole a few years ago when I was looking to get fit, make new friends and do something fun. I tried the gym but I found it hard to motivate myself so I searched around for other ways to get fit, one of them being pole dancing so I gave it a go and loved it.

What is your favorite pole move?

My favourite move is Gemini

How would you describe your personal style?

I would describe my style as graceful. I like to make moves look elegant and effortless – point your toes!

How often do you pole?

I pole as much as I can 2-4 times a week.

What is your biggest struggle as a pole dancer?

My biggest struggle is flexibility I’m like a wooden plank! This is something I’m trying to work on.

What was your most memorable pole moment? 

My most memorable pole moment (there are several) I love the sense of achievement you feel when you master a new move, I worked on cross ankle release, twisted grip and knee hold for months before I could do these moves when I eventually got them it felt amazing!

What is it about pole dancing you enjoy so much?

Pole dancing is great fun, I believe that I am in the best shape of my life because of pole. It’s harder than it looks so gives you a challenge and something to work towards. There’s so much you can do on a pole the possibilities are endless! On top of this I have made lovely friends who all have the same interests as me.

What have you learned that has made the biggest difference to your pole dancing?

Never give up. You will have good pole days and bad ones when you feel like you can’t do anything, that’s when you need to remind yourself of your pole goals, relax and have fun the hard work will pay off!

What are you favourite tips for pole dancing?

My tips for pole are to always point your toes, when spinning walk into the spin to get a better flow/spin, try to finish your spins with style (try not to crash to the floor), think about what moves work well together and give them a go it they don’t work try again!

Who is the person who has had the most impact on your dancing?

Whilst at pole sessions all the instructors have helped and encouraged my pole journey! Claire creates crazy moves to try, Jonnelle helped to build my strength and Zoey challenges me to put moves together for a routine.

What is your favourite grip?

Dry hands grip (although I try not to use it unless I’m having a bad day!)

What are the main fitness benefits of pole dancing and how has pole dancing improved your fitness, strength or body shape?

I’ve always been an active person so have never really had to worry about my weight. One of my goals in life is to stay active and be as fit and healthy for as long as possible. Having said that since I started to pole I’ve lost weight and my body is toned in all the right places! Pole really helps to tone you up because you use so many muscles during a class, many you probably didn’t know were there until you tried pole (then you will know about them.) for me pole is not just about improving my body, it keeps me going when work/life is stressful! It’s a good way to relax and focus on yourself.

What do you like to do when you’re not pole dancing? 

When I’m not pole dancing, I’m probably working! If not I love to eat out, go to the cinema, go shopping and if a few cocktails are in involved in any of the above all the better!
